Author Biographies

S Abdoola, Department Speech Language Pathology and Audiology, University of Pretoria, South Africa

Dr Abdoola is a senior lecturer at the Department of Speech Language Pathology & Audiology at the University of Pretoria. She holds a PhD in Speech Language Pathology and a Master of Early Childhood Intervention (MECI) from the University of Pretoria (UP). She has worked in both public and private practice since 2007. Her academic career started at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) as a lecturer (2012 until 2015) and she later moved to UP in 2015. Her research interests include early childhood intervention, community engagement and mHealth; specifically, the influence of 4IR on the profession of Speech Language Pathology & Audiology. Dr Abdoola has published several peer-reviewed research articles and also presents regularly at conferences (both national and international). She belongs to a number of professional associations and organisations, is a member of the Royal College of Speech Language Therapy (RCSLT) in the United Kingdom (UK), and is the first international member of the Research Champion Network of the RCSLT (UK). Dr Abdoola is also the associate editor of the International Journal Language & Communication Disorders (IJLCD).

Dr Milton has spent the majority of her career in academia, and is currently employed at the University of Pretoria. She served on the editorial board of the South African Journal of Communication Disorders during 2006/2007 and served as a co-opted member of the ETR committee of the HPCSA since 2018. She has published peer-reviewed journal articles in both local and international journals and has presented at various conferences (local and international). She is currenting a member of the EXCO and ETR committee of the SLH Board as well as the Inter-board Health Committee of the HPCSA. She is very conscious of current issues in transformation and the role it plays in shaping the future of our profession as well as our country.
